Revenue Capability

Sales interview questions for freshers — and what they are really testing.

A strong answer is not a memorised script. Interviewers are usually testing how you think about customers, value, communication, resilience and commercial outcomes.

1. Tell me about yourself

They are testing structure, relevance and confidence. Keep the answer focused on education, relevant experiences, interests that demonstrate useful behaviour and why Sales or Business Development is a logical next step.

2. Why do you want to work in sales?

Avoid saying only that you like talking to people. Explain what attracts you to understanding customers, solving business problems, working toward measurable outcomes and learning through direct market feedback.

3. Sell me this product

The weak response starts pitching immediately. A stronger response asks who the buyer is, what matters to them and what problem the product should solve before presenting value.

4. How would you handle rejection?

Interviewers are looking for resilience with learning. Explain how you separate the outcome from the lesson, review what you can improve and continue with discipline.

5. What would you do if a customer says the price is too high?

Do not immediately discount. Clarify what the buyer is comparing, whether value is understood and which outcome or concern is driving the objection.

6. How do you understand a customer's needs?

Describe a process: research context, ask discovery questions, listen for business impact, clarify priorities and confirm understanding before proposing a solution.

7. What is a sales pipeline?

Explain it as a structured view of opportunities progressing through defined stages. Mention qualification, next steps and the importance of realistic progression.

8. Why should we hire you?

Connect your evidence to the role: learning agility, communication, business curiosity, discipline, resilience and willingness to practise. Avoid unsupported claims that you are simply hardworking.

Practise thinking, not memorisation

Use multiple question variants and respond aloud. Review structure, relevance, business understanding and value articulation. The goal is to become adaptable enough to handle questions you have not seen before.
